Jwala Gutta wants to open her badminton academy

By Ians English
New Delhi, Dec 21: India's top doubles shuttler Jwala Gutta is planning to open a badminton academy in her home town, Hyderabad.

The 2010 Commonwealth Games women's doubles gold medallist has long been known to be unhappy with the way the sport is run in the country by the Badminton Association of India (BAI) and wants to make a difference by starting a academy.

"Yes, I am planning to open an academy. I am in talks with the government and have already sent my proposal to them. With the way the sport is being run in India, I thought of starting my own academy where nothing but badminton will be taught. Let us see how things turn out," Jwala told IANS ahead of her match at the ongoing Senior National Badminton Championships here on Saturday.

Asked if she wants a new facility for her academy, the 2011 World Championship bronze medallist said that there are enough places already in Hyderabad to start her venture.

"There are enough sports infrastructural facilities already available in Hyderabad which are not being used. We can use them and all help will be welcome whether it is from the Sports Authority of India (SAI) or anywhere," added Jwala.
