Kashyap won the match in straight games, 21-14, 21-12. He took 35 minutes to take the match. He next face Vietnam's Nguyen Tien Minh.
"I've played Tan twice this year, therefore I was ready for his game. I wanted to open up but then it's my first match so I was a bit nervous," Kashyap said.
"It's the next match that will decide my progress in the competition. But I am pleased to win this one, of course," he added.

After two successive failures for Indian athletes on Saturday at the London Olympics 2012, badminton singles player P Kashyap has entered the courts to play his first men's singles match against Tan Yuhan of Belgium.
Kashyap started on a confident note by winning the first game 21-14. He took 21 minutes to wrap up the first game.
The 25-year-old Kashyap will be hoping to lift the gloom in the Indian camp. The man from Hyderabad is in Group D.
There are 16 groups in men's singles and the topper from each group makes it to the knockout round.
It is important for Kashyap to start off on a winning note. The other player in his group is Nguyen Tien Minh of Vietnam.
It was not a good beginning for India on the second day of the Games as Indian men's archery team lost a thriller against Japan at the Lord's cricket ground.
Also, at Wembley Arena, Jwala Gutta and V Diju lost their group match in the mixed doubles to Indonesian pair.
