1st T20I: West Indies hit 21 sixes to set world record against India

Fort Lauderdale (USA), Aug 27: It rained sixes in the 1st Twenty20 International between India and West Indies here today (August 27). And the Caribbean side set a world record.

West Indies, sent to bat by India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, amassed 245/6 in 20 overs. They smashed 21 sixes in the innings, setting a new record. (Lewis hits 5 sixes off Binny)

The previous highest sixes in an innings of T20I was 19, by The Netherlands against Ireland in World T20 2014. (Dhoni sets world record)

The only other time 21 sixes were hit in an innings was by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) against Pune Warriors (PW) in 2013 Indian Premier League (IPL). In that match, Chris Gayle smashed a record 175 off just 66 balls with 13 sixes at Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

West Indies opener Evin Lewis hit 9 sixes while his partner Johnson Charles smashed 7. Andre Russell and Kieron Pollard had 2 sixes each while the other hit over the ropes was scored by captain Carlos Brathwaite. Lewis hit 5 sixes in a row off Stuart Binny's over.
