At the end of day's play, India's fielding coach R Sridhar told that the seriousness of Kohli's shoulder injury will be assessed on second day (Friday morning) after the scan reports.

Trying to save a boundary at deep midwicket in the 40th over, Kohli landed heavily on his right shoulder on the fast and hard outfield of the Jharkhand State Cricket Association International Stadium Complex.

While as a precautionary measure, he took ice-pack treatment, Sridhar said that Kohli's "scans will be taken later on Thursday (March 16) and the exact status of the injury will be known on Friday (March 17) morning".

Commenting upon the quick outfield in Ranchi, Sridhar added that the outfield was fast and that the only way to stop boundaries was "to try and dive and cut the ball on fast, sloping, hard outfields".

Sridhar also praised India's stand-in skipper Ajinkya Rahane, who took charge of the team in the absence of Kohli.

"Ajinkya did a very good job and was very sure of the plans. He was taking advice from Ashwin and other senior players and did the bowling changes well and kept the positive energy going," he added.
