Spinner in trouble: Amit Mishra booked for allegedly assaulting a woman

Bengaluru, Oct 20: Indian leg-spinner Amit Mishra has landed himself into trouble after he was booked for allegedly assaulting a woman during the national team's preparatory camp last month in Bengaluru.

Mishra allegedly "beat up" a woman at a five-star hotel. An FIR has been registered at Ashok Nagar police station in Bengaluru and summons has been served to the cricketer to appear in person within 7 days. Team India had a preparatory camp at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru from September 21 to 27.

Sandeep Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Central Division, Bengaluru, told OneIndia that the incident happened in September and FIR had been registered against Mishra.

He said that as per the complaint, Mishra was staying with the lady at a hotel and had allegedly assaulted her in a fight. The statements will be recorded before the next course of action is considered, Bengaluru Police said. A copy of the FIR has been sent to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), according to the police.

According to police, the incident happened on September 25 evening and the complaint was registered on September 27. The police will collect CCTV footage at the hotel and will question the hotel staff.

Mishra is currently part of the Indian team that is playing the 5-match ODI series against South Africa. The visitors lead 2-1 and the 4th ODI will be played in Chennai on October 22 (Thursday). The final game is in Mumbai on October 25 (Sunday).

The 32-year-old spinner was yesterday (October 19) included in the Test team for the opening 2 matches of the 4-game rubber.
