Arrow pierces through boy's brain at archery practice session

Mumbai, Jan 18: The MHB Colony Police Station arrested the supervisor of a sports club in Mumbai after a 16-year-old boy was critically injured by an arrow during an archery practice session.

The victim, who was playing cricket in the vicinity, accidentally came between the target and the arrow while collecting a cricket ball when the tragedy occurred.

The arrested was identified as Bipin Bihari and he was held for negligence, under Sections 287 and 338 of the IPC. Police said a 17-year-old state-level archer, who was practising at the club before an event, shot an arrow from a distance of 70 metres and before the arrow hit the target, the boy named Brijesh Sahani appeared on its way.

The arrow pierced his brain, leaving him seriously injured. He underwent a surgery at Karuna Hospital in Borivali Hospital on Friday.

Brijesh was battling for life after the surgery as the doctors were worried about the infection although the metal had been removed. They said the arrow pierced the cerebrum, the largest part of the brain and the effects will be clearer after some days. There could be a high chance of meningitis infection, they feared.

Parasnath, father of Brijesh who is a Sachin Tendulkar fan, said nobody could be blamed for the incident. The archer's family was paying for the medical expenses. Parasnath is a autorickshaw driver.
