BCCI nominates Gambhir, Jhulan for Arjuna award

By Super Admin

Mumbai, Apr 30: The Board of Control for Cricket in India has recommended batman Gautam Gambhir and women's team captain Jhulan Gosawmi for the esteemed sports award, the Arjuna Award.

The BCCI's working committee took this decision to nominate these two players in a meeting at the Cricket Centre in Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday, Apr 29.

Opener, Gautam Gambhir has in his account 1,579 test runs at an average of 75.19, and 1,494 runs at 46.38 when it comes to ODIs.

Jhulan Goswami won the ICC Women Cricketer of the Year Award in 2007 and is now nominated for the award after Anjum Chopra was conferred with the Arjuna award in 2007.

Recently, cricketers, Mahindra Singh Dhoni and Harbhajan Singh stirred controversy when they did not turn up for the Padma awards ceremony to receive the titles conferred onto them.

Infuriated by this the Sports Ministry took a decision to make it mandatory for the players to accept the awards in person. If they fail to do this the awards would be taken away from them without prior intimation.

On the issue BCCI said, "We don't want to get into that matter."
