Brian Lara disappoints again as dismissed for 4

Panchkula, Dec 3 (UNI) Thrity one year old right arm medium pacer Thirunavukkarasu Kumaran bowled Chennai superstars to an impressive 38-run victory against Brian Lara-led Mumbai Champs in the sixth match of the 4 million dollar Prize Money Indian Cricket League Twenty20 Championship at the floodlit Chaudhary Devi Lal Sports Complex here today.

His impressive bowling analysis was 4-0-21-6. He earned the distinction of taking five or more wickets in the championship. It was Chennai Superstars second successive victory from two matches while Mumbai Champs suffered their second defeat and are without any points. They have to pull up their shocks if they want to remain in the fray for the title. It was second time that Brian Lara disappointed cheaply for four. In the first match against Inzamam led Hyderabad, Lara was dismissed in the first ball he faced.

Today Kumaran's victims were Dheeraj Yadav (30, 5x4s, caught Arnold), John van der Wath (31, 3x4s, caught Harvey), Nathan Astle (20, bowled), Brian Lara (4, caught Hemanth Kumar), SN Khanolkar (0, bowled) and Subhojit Paul (6, bowled).

Chasing a victory target of 158, Mumbai Champs were bundled out for 119 with seven balls to spare.

Earlier, sitting pretty at 86 for 2 after completion of 11 overs, Chennai Superstars collapsed to 157 for 8.

Playing their second match of the inaugural league, Chennai Superstars lost their last five wickets for 71 against Brian Lara-led Mumbai Champs who desperately needed victory after losing their first match.

Mumbai Champs struck early in the Chennai Superstars' innings as West Indian Mervyn Dillon bowled Hemant Kumar (3) with the first ball of the third over. The first wicket fell at 8. Chris Read joined Harvey and they hammered the Mumbai Champs bowlers all over the ground. Former Australilan all-rounder Harvey was in a punishing mood. With match progressing, these batsmen were in aggressive mood.

Ivan Harvey in the sixth over collected 11 runs, including hitting Van Der Wath's good length ball over midwicket in a copy book style, with one keen on the ground.

The 11th over witnessed the dismissal of Chris Read. He was lucky to survive a stumping chance. However, he fell in the same over, leg before wicket to Nathan Astle (3 for 36). The wicket fell at 86 with Harvey and Read (34, 5x4s) contributing 78 runs for second wicket.

In the 13th over fetched Chennai Superstars 18 runs. Harvey hit Astle for two succssive sixes, first on long-on and the second at deep midwicket. The Australia then drove Astle straight to the boundary. However, Astle dismissed him in the ball of the 13th over as he gave a catch to Khirid. After departure of Read and Harvey (63, 6x4s, 4x6), it was a procession for Chennai Superstars batsmen.
