Can captain Virat Kohli help India end 22-year wait in Sri Lanka?

Bengaluru, Aug 3: India's Test captain Virat Kohli has scaled new heights in recent years. His growth as an international cricketer has been on the upswing. And now, he can earn more plaudits if he leads the team to Test series victory in Sri Lanka which will end a 22-year wait.

Kohli's biggest challenge as Indian Test skipper begins on August 12 in Galle in the opening match of the 3-game series. This is his first major Test tour (of 3 matches). Earlier, he had led India in the one-off Test in Bangladesh.

The Delhi right-hander can become India's second captain ever, after Mohammad Azharuddin, to win a Test series in Sri Lanka.

Under the leadership of Azharuddin, India won the 3-match rubber 1-0 in 1993. Since then, 4 attempts have not yielded success for India.

Before the team's departure to Sri Lanka yesterday (August 2), Kohli said, "It is an opportunity to have certain plans to prepare for a particular series. Actually judge ourselves on the basis of those three Test matches and analyse how many times we were able to do things actually we wanted to do. I think in one-off Test matches you do not get that opportunity.

"You prepare for a week or 10 days and that game gets over in five days and correct things and straight away go in to the second game. That is very exciting for me personally to play a full series as a captain and to be able to have the opportunity of executing certain things that we want to do as a team."

This time, it presents an opportunity for Kohli and his men to change things.

Will they succeed?
