Captain Kohli joins elite company of Gavaskar and Cook

Galle (Sri Lanka), Aug 13: India's Test captain Virat Kohli joined an elite company of three when he struck a century against Sri Lanka on the second day of the first Test here today.

Kohli scored 103, his 11th ton in Test cricket to join former India great Sunil Gavaskar and current England skipper Alastair Cook as the only batsmen to have scored 4 hundreds in 1st 4 Tests as captain. Cook had 5 in his first 5 Tests as a leader.

The 26-year-old Kohli made 115 and 141 in his first Test as India skipper (standing in for the injured MS Dhoni) against Australia in Adelaide last December.

In January this year he hit 147 against the same opposition in Sydney. And today was his 4th three-figure mark in as many Tests.

In the previous Test in Bangladesh, he had missed out, scoring 14 in India's only innings.

Kohli has already smashed several records at the international stage and many more are set to be broken.

Note: Gavaskar scored his 4 hundreds from 1976 to 1979 and Cook between 2010 and 2012.
