"A series win is the best way to send off a player of Sangakkara's calibre," Mathews said.

Kumar Sangakkara will retire after the 2nd Test

Sangakkara has announced his retirement from international cricket after the second match of the three-Test series against India starting August 12.

Sangakkara's last match will be from August 20-24 at P Sara Oval here. Mathews also said that his own participation in the first Test starting in Galle on August 12 is doubtful as he is yet to recover from a wrist sprain.

The hosts will also miss fast bowlers Dushmantha Chameera and Suranga Lakmal due to injuries.
