Extradition of Lalit Modi cleared by Mumbai court

The ED said that it was unable to investigate the matter against Modi further as it was unable to execute the non-bailable warrant that had been issued against him.

A Mumbai court today cleared the extradition proceedings to be initiated against Indian Premier League Founder, Lalit Modi. The Enforcement Directorate had argued before the court and sought a Letter of Request to be sent to the United Kingdom to extradite Modi, facing corruption charges to India.

The ED said that it was unable to investigate the matter against Modi further as it was unable to execute the non-bailable warrant that had been issued against him. Armed with this order the ED would now request the Ministry of External Affairs to forward the same to a local court in the UK.

Modi is facing charges of having committed acts that were against the interests of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) with an intention to make illegal gains, it has been alleged.
