Gujarat in sight of first innings lead against Delhi

Valsad, Nov 24 (UNI) Gujarat bowlers put their team in a commanding position in the Ranji Trophy Super League Group 'A' tie against Delhi at the close of play on the second day of the four-day match, being played here today.

Gujarat, who made 350 in their first innings, reduced Delhi to 199 for six at close of play on the second day. Y Nagar with 40 and Chaitanya Nanda with 16 were at the crease at close of play with Delhi still 151 runs behind Gujarat's first innings score with only four wickets in hand.

Earlier, resuming on 310 for seven, Gujarat took their score to 350 before being bowled out. Bhavin Thaker cracked 151, before being out, to help Gujarat to a good score of 350 after being 183 for five at one stage.

Delhi beginning their first innings once again saw its batsmen let them out with pacer S Trivedi landing the first blow for the visiting side by getting rid of Shikhar Dhawan for 0 in the third over of the innings. Dhawan was caught behind by Parthiv Patel, nibbling at one outside the off stump, as Delhi slumped to 11 for one.

P Bhist, who opened the innings with Dhawan, was living dangerously though he attacked the bowling hitting five fours in his 28 before he was caught in the deep of spinner M Parmar to leave Delhi at 38 for two.

Mithun Manhas then in the company of captain Aakash Chopra tried to steady the ship before I Choudhary had him caught by Sunny Patel for 11 to leave Delhi reeling at 59 for three.

Delhi were in further trouble with Aakash also heading back to the pavilion four runs later being caught behind by Parthiv Patel of A Makda for 19.

Debutant G Chabra then launched a rear guard action first with M Tehlan with whom he put on 43 runs for the fifth wicket before Tehlan was caught by Panchal of M Parmar for 17 and then with another debutant Nagar putting on 56 runs for the sixth wicket, before Chabra's defiant innings of 63 came to an end being caught plumb in front of the wicket by A Makda for 63. His runs came in a stay of 128 balls and was studded with 11 boundaries.

At close, Nagar carried on the good work remaining not out with 40 while C Nanda, who was batting at 16, had put on 37 runs for the unbroken seventh wicket.
