Bengaluru, March 10: That television is a medium with a powerful impact proved to be true for Joginder Sharma, India's bowling all-rounder who shot to fame for his successul final over against Pakistan in the final of the inaugural T20 World Cup in Johannesburg in South Africa in 2007.

The man from Haryana was never heard again, at least for a role in the 22 yards, but India did not forget him.
Sharma's career in international cricket (four ODIs in three years and four T20s in five days) never really took off but he is still not fogotten for that one over in which he did the exact opposite to Chetan Sharma to deny Pakistan a win. The scoop by Misbah-ul-Haq landed in Sreesanth's safe hands at short fine leg and Pakistan fell short of the target set by India by six runs.
Joginder, 24 then, was crowned a hero after that as things generally happen in these parts of the world. But his sporadic career never took off after that. In fact, that final was also his final appearance in international cricket.
He had briefly played the Indian Premier Leagur for the now defunct Chennai Super Kings and quit domestic cricket last year. The all-rounder has scored 2689 runs and bagged 289 wickets in first-class cricket.
Nine years since then when Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who had kept faith on Joginder on that historic day, is ready to lead his team into yet another T20 World Cup, do we know where Joginder is?
He made the headlines briefly in November 2011 after getting injured in an accident in Delhi but that was it. What is the man's professional identity today?
Well, Joginder, 33 today, is currently the deputy superintendent of police. He rose through the ranks to become the DSP after getting a job with Haryana Police. The short-statured man recently attended paid a visit to the wedding of his friend and current Indian player, Mohit Sharma.
