Chasing a paltry target of 103 in the second innings on the fourth day, India achieved the total for the loss of two wickets.

With this win, Virat Kohli and his men have put themselves into driver's seat in the ongoing tournament.

Despite losing the toss and missing the advantage, Mohali Test was mostly dominated by the Indians. India outclassed England in all the department of the game at Mohali.

Here are the key takeaways from the 3rd Test:

Ashwin, Jadeja and Jayant set new Indian record:

India's spin trio of Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Jayant Yadav, known for their bowling skills, today (November 28) set a new batting record on the 3rd day of the 3rd Test.

Ashwin, Jadeja and Jayant all scored half centuries as the lower order helped India secure a crucial 134-run lead.

Today was the first time in the 84-year Indian Test history that players batting at numbers 7, 8 and 9 had scored 50 or more runs in the same innings.

The trio's batting performance has helped India gain advantage over England. Their presence has given depth to the vulnerable looking Indian lower order and eases the pressure off batting mainstay Virat Kohli.

'Comeback man' Parthiv Patel as a back-up opener:

'Comeback man' Parthiv Patel as a back-up opener:

Parthiv Patel’'s positive batting in his comeback Test match after a gap of eight years impressed all and silenced the critics. With scores of 42 and 67 not out Parthiv, proved selectors' decision of picking him up after regular wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha was ruled out.

Parthiv impressed skipper Virat Kohli so much that he did not rule out a possibility that along with second wicketkeeper's slot, he could also be an option as a backup opener.

With KL Rahul’s injuries, failure of Gautam Gambhir and Shikhar Dhawan still to hit a good run of form, Parthiv has emerged as an another alternative for the skipper.

Asked if Parthiv could be Rahul’s back-up, Virat sounded optimistic, "Wow, that’s a good headache to be honest. You never know, there are all kinds of possibilities. The way he approached both the innings, it was amazing to see."

R Ashwin equals Kapil Dev's record:

India's frontline spinner Ravichandran Ashwin matched former captain and all-rounder Kapil Dev's record in the 3rd Test against England. The Tamil Nadu right-hander struck a brilliant half century (72) at Mohali in the first innings on the 2nd day to put India in a commanding position.

Ashwin is only the second Indian player after Kapil to aggregate 500 plus runs and take more than 50 wickets in Tests in a year. Kapil did it twice in 1979 (619 runs, 74 wickets) and 1983 (579 runs, 75 wickets).

Ashwin, who has emerged as a Test all-rounder for India, is at his best picking wickets and has also contributed with the bat lower down the order.

The off-spinner helped India take crucial advantage at the end of third day's play. The tweaker removed India's nemesis Alastair Cook and Moeen Ali with his brilliance.

His application and patience has made him one of the most lethal bowlers in world cricket.

Kohli-Stokes' silent send-off:

Kohli-Stokes' silent send-off:

Mohali Test will also be remembered for its share of on-field send-off between aggressive Indian skipper Virat Kohli and England all-rounder Ben Stokes. The on-field exchange of words and the dramatic turn of events that unfolded later, made the game even more memorable.

On the first day, after Stokes was dismissed, he had a verbal spat with Kohli while returning to the pavilion -- an act that got him ICC's reprimand.

On second day, it was Stokes' turn to get a well-set Kohli out and then to comically gesture 'sealed lips' so as to make people aware that he has been under sanction.

On the third day, as soon as Stokes was dismissed by Jayant Yadav, Kohli made an 'I am quiet' gesture which said it all. When Jonny Bairstow was asked about it, his answer suggested that they seemed to have now accepted that Virat Kohli comes with a package.

Young Haseeb Hameed shows resolve, impresses all:

Young Haseeb Hameed shows resolve, impresses all:

If there was one England cricketer who hogged most of the limelight during Mohali Test, it was 19-year-old opener Haseeb Hameed.

Hameed, who was playing only his third Test, batted in pain to score an unbeaten 59 in the 2nd innings and showed a lot of maturity during his innings. Due to injury, Hameed had to bat at number 8 position in the second innings.

However, his gritty 156-ball knock could not prevent his team from losing the 3rd Test.

But his resolve impressed even opposition skipper Virat Kohli.

Kohli appreciated the youngster's knock as he patted him on the back. Other Indian players also congratulated him.
