India and Virat Kohli create history at Kotla as they thrash SA by 337 runs

New Delhi, Dec 7: Virat Kohli today created history on his home ground - Feroz Shah Kotla, by becoming the first Indian captain to win a Test series 3-0 against South Africa.

On Monday, India defeated Hashim Amla-led South Africa by 337 runs to complete a 3-0 triumph in the 4-match Gandhi-Mandela series for the Freedom Trophy. The visitors were all out for 143 on the 5th day while chasing 481. (Ashwin equals Tendulkar, McGrath)

India had won the 1st Test in Mohali by 108 runs, while the 2nd was drawn in Bengaluru after 4 days of play were washed out. In Nagpur, the hosts succeeded by 124 runs to end Proteas' 9-year unbeaten run in overseas Tests.

Before today, India and South Africa had been involved in 11 series and no team had won with a 3-0 margin. The biggest scoreline was 2-0, twice achieved by South Africa in 1996-97 (at home) and 1999-2000 (in India).

Today's historic verdict also catapulted Kohli and his men to number 2 in the ICC Test rankings. South Africa are still the number 1 Test side in the world.
