1. KL Rahul
The young opener slammed 199 in the last Test he played. Lokesh Rahul was unlucky to have missed his maiden double hundred after he succumbed under pressure.
The 24-year-old, however, was appreciated for his marathon innings as he batted for 450 minutes and consumed 311 deliveries. He, therefore, would hoping to repeat a similar performance and start the season on a positive note.
2. Murali Vijay
The Tamil Nadu batsman has been the best opener for India in the recent times. He will once again be opening the Indian innings at Hyderabad.
Vijay had a decent Test series against England as he scored two centuries (126, 136). Vijay slammed 150 against Bangladesh in the last Test played between the two sides at Fatullah.
3. Cheteshwar Pujara
Like Vijay, Pujara too had a memorable Test rubber against England for he too slammed two centuries and second highest scorer (401) for the team in the series after skipper Kohli.
Pujara's domestic performance, recently, has also been good, therefore team would be hoping another big innings from the right-handed batsman in the middle order.
4. Virat Kohli
India's batting masterclass and charismatic skipper is a perfect-fit at number four. The highest scorer across formats in 2016 is in phenomenal form and the team would be hoping for a big knock against Bangladesh.
Kohli is yet to slam a Test century against Bangladesh and there couldn't have been better occasion than this. Team and fans both would be expecting another brilliant innings from the Delhi dasher.
5. Ajinkya Rahane
The right handed batsman will be doing a comeback into the Indian Test team after recovering from an injury. Rahane was ruled out of the Indian side after sustaining injury during practice session ahead of Mumbai Test. The 28-year-old batsman is fit and captained India A against England in the second warm up one-day game, last month.
Addressing media persons on the eve of the first ever Test with Bangladesh on home soil, skipper Kohli made it abundantly clear that senior batsman Rahane will get his rightful place into the Playing XI against.
"I feel one game doesn't overshadow two years of hard work from another player. That is my point of view. You need to understand what 'Jinx' has done for the team for past 2 years. He averages almost 50 in this format (Tests). He is probably the most solid batsman in our team, in the Test format. We look at him from that point of view, certainly," Kohli said.
6. Wriddhiman Saha
Fit again Saha is back into the fold as team's first choice wicketkeeper-batsman. He will be donning the role of team's stumper in Hyderabad and affecting those close catches and stumpings.
Saha's experience will also help the skipper take calls on using DRS. Saha recently slammed his maiden first class double hundred in the Irani Cup to make his contention for selection after recovering from an injury.
7. R Ashwin
World's no. 1 Test bowler is also a fantastic batsman in Tests, which makes him No. 1 all-rounder in the world.
Apart from leading Indian spin attack against Bangladesh, his contributions with the bat will strengthen team's batting, lower down the order.
The Test Cricketer of 2016 would be hoping to get himself into the grooves with a good performance against Bangladesh ahead of crucial Australia series.
The off-spinner would be eyeing a perfect start to his Test figures in the new year (2017) as well.
8. Ravindra Jadeja
The left-arm spinner was the second most lethal weapon for India in the series against England. With 26 wickets under his belt, Jadeja was second best bowler in the after Ashwin (28 wickets in 5 matches).
The aggressive left-handed batsman also notched up his highest Test score (90) in the series against England. His presence in the lower order makes the Indian batting line-up deeper.
9. Kuldeep Yadav
With senior leg-spinner Amit Mishra being ruled out of Bangladesh Test, uncapped Kuldeep Yadav replaced him.
The 22-year-old left-arm chinaman bowler from Uttar Pradesh is yet to represent India at the senior level, though he has played for India Under-19s and India A.
Recently, he took 3 wickets (1/32 and 2/2) in the two-day warm-up game against Bangladesh.
Last month, he bamboozled England in a one-day practice match in Mumbai, taking 5 wickets for 60 runs.
Thus, there is a high probability of him getting his Test cap against Bangladesh as Hyderabad pitch is expected to favour spin, and India might opt playing three spinners.
10. Umesh Yadav
The right-arm India pacer might once again get his place in the side in the absence of seamer Mohammed Shami. Yadav was part of the Indian pace attack in all the five Tests against England.
11. Ishant Sharma
Just like Umesh, Ishant too was part of the team in the previous Test India played. The aggressive Delhi-pacer would thus lead the Indian pace battery against Bangladesh and rattle visitors early on.
