IPL 2015: KKR players feel 'horrible' earthquake in Kolkata

New Delhi/Kolkata, April 25: Cricketers playing the Indian Premier League 2015 (IPL 8) were left shaken by earthquake in New Delhi and Kolkata on Saturday morning (April 25).

According to a PTI report, on Saturday morning, "A high-intensity quake measuring 7.5 on the Richter scale today rocked many parts of East and North India, including Delhi, epicentre of which was Nepal. (Sachin Tendulkar on MI's 'bumpy ride')

Gambhir also felt a 'strong earthquake'

"Tremors were felt across eastern and northern parts of India, said J L Gautam, Head Operations Seismology of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD)."

IMD statement said, "Earthquake of magnitude 7.5 occurred today at 11.41 AM between latitude 28.1 North and Longitude 84.6 East. The epicentre was located in Nepal."

Kolkata Knight Riders' cricketers - captain Gautam Gambhir, Robin Uthappa, Morne Morkel and Kuldeep Yadav felt the tremors in Kolkata, where the team is based now. KKR play Rajasthan Royals tomorrow (April 26) at Kolkata's Eden Gardens.

"Strong earthquake, felt here in Kolkata as well. Hope all of u and ur families r safe. Praying for ur wellbeing," KKR captain Gautam Gambhir tweeted in the afternoon.

Yadav tweeted at 11.56 AM, "It's really horrible, heart just started to beat faster. Yes I did feel the #earthquake in kolkata."

Uthappa wrote on his Twitter page that this was his "first experience" of earthquake and asked people to stay safe.

"My first experience of an earthquake!Kolkata went frm sultry to AC like weather in 2 mins. 6.4 on the Richter scale here.A serious reminder," KKR's opening batsman wrote.

TV commentator Harsha Bhogle too felt the aftershocks of the tremors in Delhi.

Another IPL cricketer, Jaydev Unadkat, who is with Delhi Daredevils, too experienced "shaking and swirling".

Robin Uthappa's 'first experience' of earthquake

"Shaking and Swirling with the Motherland! Not that it is fun! God's way of warning people to keep calm and stay Down To Earth? #Earthquake," the left-arm paceman wrote on his Twitter page.

Strength and conditioning coach of KKR, Adrian Le Roux too experienced the quake in Kolkata "for over a minute".
