New Delhi, Dec 8: The 9th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 9) will be held from April 9 to May 29, 2016, it was announced today. IPL will start 6 days after the ICC World Twenty20 2016 in India.
The IPL Governing Council (GC) which met here on Tuesday (December 8) made the dates official for the next edition of the Twenty20 league.
The Players Auction for IPL 9 will take place in Bengaluru on February 6, the organisers said.
Also today, 2 new franchises (Pune and Rajkot) were unveiled. They will replace Chennai Super Kings (CKS) and Rajasthan Royals (RR), who have been suspended for 2 years.
"Two new franchises to have draft picks on December 15. Pune will get to pick the players first," the organisers said.
According to the player drafts, both CSK and RR cricketers will be available for the new franchises to pick.
