IPL 2018: Rajasthan Royals want a new name, Kings XI Punjab request BCCI to change home ground

New Delhi, Aug 22: Rajasthan Royals will make a comeback to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 and the franchise want to have a major revamp before the next season.

As per reports, the Jaipur-based franchise has requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to change its name and also change its base from the Pink City.

Many feel the decision will one of the many makeover moves made by the franchise to put behind the ugly spot-fixing scandal and other controversies which resulted in its two-year suspension.

Jaipur IPL Cricket Private Limited, the company that owns the franchise, feels a new name and a fresh venue might ensure a better prospect. Rajasthan Royals were the inaugural champions of the IPL.

"They have made the request but no reason has been given as to why they want to change the company name," a BCCI official was quoted by the Indian Express as saying.

A similar request has, reportedly, been made by Kings XI Punjab as the Mohali-based franchise wants to shift their base from their existing venue.

KXIP have cited less footfall, lack of support from the state association and trouble with local authorities as the reasons for moving out.

As per the report, KXIP, which played several matches in Indore - their second home ground - in the previous season have recorded better footfall and fan support than Mohali.

"They had bid for Mohali when the first-ever auction took place for IPL teams. So technically, if they want to change their base now, they will have to pay the BCCI. They have made this request earlier too but the board did not agree. The franchise has been facing many issues with the local police authorities. They have also cited lack of support from the Punjab Cricket Association. If they are allowed then chances are that their name will also change. It will be as per the new venue. The IPL GC will take a call on it," a BCCI official was quoted by the news daily as saying.

Since the franchises Rising Pune Supergiant and Gujarat Lions cease to exist as their contract for two years came to an end this year, RR and KXIP might bid for shifting their bases to these venues.
