IPL Kochi franchisee alleges 'Modi-Modi' nexus

New Delhi, Apr 15: After Shashi Tharoor, yet another politician has been dragged into the Indian Premier League (IPL) controversy as the Kochi team franchisee Rendezvous Sports World has alleged that the Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi along with IPL commissioner Lalit Modi pressurised the owners to give up their cricket franchise.

This allegation takes significance from the known fact that if Kochi bid was cancelled, Gujarat's Adani Group will secure the franchise.

Besides this, Shashi Tharoor had also earlier alleged, "Modi (Lalit Modi) and others tried to pressure the consortium members to abandon their bid in favour of another city in a different state."

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Apr 15, Rendezvous' spokesperson Satyajit Gaekwad said, "We were told that we won't be allowed to work. The Adani group and Narendra Modi had a stake in the Ahmedabad IPL bid.

After we won the bid, our investors spoke to (former BCCI chief) Sharad Pawar and asked him which city to choose. He said 'you can take your pick', so we decided to take Kochi."

With this alleged 'Modi-Modi nexus' surfacing, the IPL Kochi Controversy, which started off as an ownership issue, gets more murky.
