Jammu court stays JKCA decision of ousting Farooq Abdullah

By Ians English

Jammu, July 20: A court here on Monday stayed the decision of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) ousting Farooq Abdullah as its president.

Excise magistrate (Jammu) Arvinder Singh Langeh stayed the JKCA executive committee decision removing the former chief minister from presidentship of the association. Of the 64 club members of the JKCA, 42 voted in an election in the summer capital Srinagar removing the National Conference leader from the top spot of the cricket body.

Meanwhile, state Sports Minister Imran Raza Andari was elected as the new JKCA president.

This is the first time Abdullah has lost control of the JKCA after 1980 when he was first elected president.

Following a suit filed on behalf of the 77-year-old before the excise magistrate Jammu, the court directed: "Any decision if taken in the JKCA meeting today shall remain in abeyance till further orders."
