Karnataka batsmen hit double tons, set partnership record of 403

Bengaluru, June 9: Karnataka's Pavan Deshpande and Anirudha Joshi struck unbeaten double centuries and were involved in an unfinished record 403-run partnership in a Division I league match organised by the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

This feat, for the 5th wicket, was achieved during the 2-day (June 6 and 7) match between Vultures Cricket Club and Social Cricketers.

Record setting duo: Aniruddha (left) and Pavan

25-year-old left-handed Deshpande, the Vultures CC captain, struck an unbeaten 204 (258 balls, 3x6, 24x4). 27-year-old right-hander Joshi, nephew of former India Test all-rounder Sunil Joshi, was 212 not out (199 balls, 8x6, 23x4).

Thanks to this record association, the team scored 458/4 in their allotted 90 overs. The duo had come together at 55/4 in 18.3 overs.

"This was a record partnership and also a record for both the batsmen getting double hundreds in a I Division league match wherein the first innings is limited to 90 overs," according to KSCA.

The match ended in a draw and Vultures got 3 points for their first innings lead while Social Cricketers had 1 point.

Karun Nair, the Karnataka Ranji Trophy batsman, also played in this memorable game, for Vultures. However, he was out for just 4.
