KPL: Money really doesn't matter to me, says Robin Uthappa

Bengaluru, Aug 5: It came as a surprise when hard-hitting opening batsman Robin Uthappa went for a low price at Karnataka Premier League's (KPL) Player Auction recently. However, Uthappa said money doesn't matter to him and he is happy to play as many Twenty20 games ahead of next year's ICC World T20 2016.

Talking about his and team's preparations for KPL, Uthappa commented, "KPL is a good tournament. Preparations are going on as usual. I'm looking forward to this tournament. It's good to have a lot of T20 games, especially with the T20 World Cup coming up."

"There's no such thing as playing too many games. It's always good to be playing. I'm happy to be a part of this side. We've got a good side and hopefully we can play to our potential and win this tournament. We look forward to every game, " added Uthappa at the team's jersey unveiling ceremony in Bengaluru on Tuesday night (August 4).

When queried about the low price for him at the auction, he explained, "I was under the impression that a lot of people didn't know whether I would be playing or not. I think it came as a surprise and unsettled a lot of plans. The money doesn't really matter to me. Just the experience of playing with these boys and playing T20 cricket right now is something I'm looking forward to."

This year's KPL will begin on September 2. There are 8 teams in the tournament.
