Lalit Modi resigns from cricket administration, urges BCCI to release funds for RCA

New Delhi, Aug 12: Former commissioner of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Lalit Modi has announced his resignation from the Nagaur District Cricket Administration in Rajasthan.

Modi, who is absconding from the authorities in India, took to his Twitter handle and even tagged BCCI CEO Rahul Johri to reveal his decision of stepping down from all sorts of cricket administration posts.

"It has been a long journey for me in Indian cricket. The path has been rocky at times, but the destination has always been the pursuit of excellence. Needless to state that over the past 15 years, I have enjoyed every moment of my journey.

"But I feel that the time is now ripe to pass on the baton to the next generation. Thus, today I want to bid goodbye to cricket administration for now," he wrote on his Twitter handle.

The businessman, who is facing a life ban from the BCCI and is in exile owing to money laundering charges by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), posted a three-page letter on his micro-blogging site.

Modi posted the same on his Instagram handle with a caption, "Dear Fans of cricket & the lifeline of the game. I want to take this opportunity to thank each & every one of you for making @IPL what it is. I have just decided to hang up my boots and have officially resigned a few minutes ago from all positions I held at various cricket bodies. once again hope you all continue to support this amazing game. big hug and once again thank you for helping me realize my #dream. jai Hind - Lalit Modi."

Modi fled the country in 2010 after allegations of tax evasion and money laundering were leveled against him. He is living in London ever since but keeps on attacking BCCI administration in his tweets from time to time.

Earlier in June, Congress leader CP Joshi pipped Lalit Modi's son, Ruchir Modi, to become president of the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA).
