Mitchell Johnson supports India, wants DRS scrapped

Melbourne, Feb 19: Former Australian fast bowler Mitchell Johnson has supported India's stand and wants the Decision Review System (DRS) to be scrapped from international cricket, saying the game worked fine without it for over 100 years.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has strongly opposed the DRS in bilateral series, claiming that it is not 100 per cent accurate.

As the debate over the use of technology is still continuiing, Johnson has given views saying he does not want the system. (Dhoni's views on DRS)

"In my mind, we need to decide if we want to use technology properly or not use it at all," he wrote in a column for News Corp, according to a report on Cricket Australia's (CA) website on Friday (February 19). (BCCI to discuss 'conditional use' of DRS)

The 34-year-old Johnson, who retired from international cricket last year, opined that if technology is not 100 per cent correct it is better not to use it.

"To be honest, I'd be happy if they left everything to the on-field umpires," Johnson, who took 313 Test wickets from 73 matches, said.

"I'm happy to have no DRS - cricket worked pretty well without it for over 100 years. I tend to agree with India's perspective on the DRS debate - it's either got to be spot on, or not used at all.

"If we can make sure that technology is used to get the right decision every time, then that's great. But until then, I'm not so sure," the former left-arm paceman added.
