Muralitharan appointed Sunrisers' bowling coach and mentor

Hyderabad, Jan 21: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have appointed former Sri Lankan offspinner Muttaiah Muralitharan as their bowling coach and team mentor for the 2015 season of Indian Premier League (IPL 8).

Muralitharan, the highest wicket-taker in Test cricket with 800 victims, was announced as SRH's bowling coach and mentor yesterday (January 20).

Muralitharan to mentor Sunrisers

In October last year, the Sri Lankan had said he will IPL this year, after being associated with the tournament since its start in 2008. (Lost WC final due to Dhoni's brilliance: Murali)

"His expertise is bound to help budding spinners in the Sunrisers Squad, especially the likes of Karn Sharma who had a disappointing Test debut," a report on IPL's official website said.

The 42-year-old represented Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the previous IPL season but featured in the playing eleven only once in a while and failed to create much of an impact.

After retiring from international cricket, Muralitharan had achieved tremendous T20 success while representing Chennai Super Kings (CKS) in particular, winning the title in both 2010 and 2011, as well as the Champions League T20 in South Africa in 2010. He picked up 63 wickets in 66 IPL games at an excellent economy rate of 6.69. He also played for the now defunct Kerala franchise, Kochi Tuskers Kerala.
