No IPL matches during polls: AP police

By Super Admin

Vizag, Mar 12: The Congress-led Andhra Pradesh govt on Thursday, Mar 12 expressed its inability on providing security for the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches, which are set to co-incide with the Lok Sabha elections as well as the Vidhan Sabha elections in the state.

The State Government wrote a letter to the Home Ministry, informing that it would be difficult for the state to provide forces for the IPL during the polls and that the priority for the state is to conduct peaceful and incident free elections.

Andhra Pradesh is the home of the Deccan Chargers and has been allotted 8 matches, 7 in Hyderabad and 1 in Vizag.

The polls in Andhra Pradesh are scheduled between April 15th-23rd, and the State Government wants the matches to postponed to May, or atleast till after April 23rd.

Kolkata and Punjab governments have expressed apprehension about hosting the IPL matches due to security concerns, unless the dates are changed.

Earlier the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had too expressed his inability to host the IPL matches in Chennai till 16th April due to the polls.
