Nuzhat Parveen a new kid on the block in Indian women’s cricket

Bhopal, Nov 6: Nuzhat Parveen is a wicketkeeper, her jersey number is seven and she also hails from a small town in Madhya Pradesh named, Singrouli.

Nuzhat is the new kid on the block in the field of Indian women's cricket team and resembles similar features as India's one-day international captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. She also dreams of establishing her small town on the map of world cricket in near future.

For the first time, Indian national women's team will be seeing a Muslim member from Rewa division in Madhya Pradesh as Nuzhat has got chance in India's forthcoming West Indies tour for the three T20 international matches.

The 20-year old wicketkeeper-batsman has also been included in the senior national team for the Asia Cup, starting November 27.

Elated with the national call, Nuzhat said on Friday, “It seems amazing. Around six years ago I could not even think of getting call in the national team. I wanted to become a footballer. I had represented Madhya Pradesh in the under-15 national football championship. But in an interesting incident I turned cricketer."

Around six years ago, in 2011 Singrouli district cricket association was struggling to form a team in the inter-district cricket tournament. Haripriya Das, a senior female cricketer from MP, forced Nuzhat to play that match.

Nuzhat said, “I used to play 'gali cricket' with tennis ball against local boys. That time, I used to keep behind the wickets. So, I agreed with Haripriya and played in that match. I struck 30 runs and got a call in the state team. Then in 2012 I had debut in the inter-zonal match with MP."

Nuzhat also added, “I have seen the movie, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story. I have been highly inspired by his dedication and his fight to establish himself as a cricketer. The movie also taught me how to work hard in the early days and I am doing that. I also dream of becoming a successful cricketer like him and make Singrouli as popular as Ranchi."

Nuzhat also says she is feeling tensed to have thought that she will be keeping Juhlan Goswami's bowling behind the wickets in West Indies.

Nuzhat said,"Jhulan is a legend. I am simply thrilled that I will be sharing dressing room with her."
