On Sourav Ganguly's birthday, Virender Sehwag recalls shirt-waving at Lord's

Bengaluru, July 8: As former India captain Sourav Ganguly turned 44 today (July 8), Virender Sehwag, in his own style, wished "Dada" on Twitter and fans loved the "Nawab of Najafgarh" for his words.

During his playing days, Sehwag had his own style of batting. Now, in his post-retirement days, he has stuck to the same. Be it in commentary or the way he writes on the micro-blogging site Twitter.

On Friday, Sehwag took to his verified Twitter account to wish Ganguly on his birthday. It was not one of those routine messages. He recalled the famous shirt-waving by the former skipper at Lord's balcony after India had defeated England in the .

The 37-year-old Sehwag, who played in that ODI, said he wanted Ganguly to help India wave the flag high just like he waved his shirt at .

"HappyBirthdayDada @SGanguly99. May you keep on helping India wave our flag high,just like u waved ur shirt at Lords," Sehwag tweeted to his 6 million plus followers on Friday morning.

This tweet of Sehwag was accompanied with a picture of himself, Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar - all three who had opened for India in ODIs.

The tweet was retweeted more than 1,300 times and liked by over 2,600 till Friday 11.40 AM IST. The way Sehwag had written drew a lot of appreciaton from his followers.

Sehwag has always mentioned the support he received from Ganguly during his playing days. He had said it was because him that he became a Test player.

"Ganguly sacrificed his opening spot for me, he loved me and had confidence in me. So, thank you Sourav, I am grateful to you. You saw me as a Test player. Had I not played in Tests, I would not have scored these so many runs," Sehwag had said after his retirement last year.
