PCB appoints Latif as wicketkeeping coach

By Staff

Lahore, June 4 (UNI) The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed former skipper Rashid Latif as wicketkeeping coach for three years to develop and improve young keepers in the domestic circuit.

''My objective is to transfer my knowledge in grooming and preparing young wicketkeepers and lift the overall standard of the keepers in the domestic circuit,'' Latif said.

''My job is to make the wicketkeepers a strong department for the country,'' he added.

Currently working as Head of sports in the Port Qasim Authority, Latif was first picked in the national side on the strength of his batting. Latif kept wickets in all his outings.

He is second on Pakistan's list of ODI dismissals - with 220 from 166 matches, while Moin Khan has 287 from 219 games.

Latif, who conducted training camps for the current generation top class wicketkeepers like Kamran Akmal was of view that keeping is a tough job and a player who wants to become a good keeper should be physically fit.

The wicketkeeper-batsman has also trained the Pakistan Under-16 side that toured West Indies.

''Wicketkeeping is a difficult job,'' Latif said. ''A mentally and physically tough and slim player can be a good wicketkeeper.'' UNI XC RKM AB RN1650
