PCB says BCCI never tried to scrap Champions Trophy

Lahore, Sep 19 (UNI) The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has refuted reports which suggested that the BCCI attempted to scrap the Champions Trophy from the international calender at the ICC meeting which eventually postponed the biennial tournament.

There were reports that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had demanded to strike off the Champions Trophy from international calender so as to accomodate the Champions League Twenty20 tournament.

However, the PCB chief operating officer Shafqat Naghmi denied having any knowledge about any such stand taken by the BCCI.

''No one at the meeting said the Champions Trophy should not be held,'' Naghmi said.

''I was there at the meeting and the Indians did raise a point about finding a new window because of their prior commitments next year but they never said the tournament should not be a part of the international calendar,'' Naghmi added.

He further expressed his gratitude towards the Indian Board and said India was quite flexible to adjust the Future Tours Program so as to find a new window for the Champions Trophy.

''With India's support I am sure all other nations can do a bit of adjusting to find a new window for the tournament,'' Naghmi said.
