Ashwin grabbed Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim's wicket to get his 250th wicket in his 45th Test and reached the landmark. Before Ashwin, Lillee was the fastest to get 250 scalps in Tests who achieved this feat in 48 games.

The Tamil Nadu off-spinner finished with 2/98 in 28.5 overs in the first innings, on a pitch favouring pacers. India bowlers (Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja) got just 4 wickets in the first innings which is a rarity on Indian pitches in Test matches these days. Meanwhile, India took a lead of 299 runs after Bangladesh were bowled out for 388 in the first innings at lunch on the penultimate day.

For the visitors, skipper Rahim (127), all-rounder Hasan (82) and Mehedi Hasan Miraz (51) were the major contributors for the cause.

Earlier in September last year, he became the fastest Asian and second fastest in the world to claim 200 Test wickets. Ashwin took 37 Tests to reach the milestone to break the record previously held by Pakistan's Waqar Younis who achieved it in 38 Tests.
