Record: AB de Villiers hits fastest 150 in ODI history, 2nd quickest ton in WC

Sydney, Feb 27: South Africa captain AB de Villiers on Friday smashed the second fastest World Cup century and fastest ever 150 in ODIs, against West Indies in a Pool B match of ICC World Cup 2015 at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). South Africa won by a joint World Cup record 257-run margin.

De Villiers, who last month blasted the fastest ever ODI ton, off just 31 balls, was again at his best. He feasted on West Indian bowling attack, plundering runs at will. He set a new record in ODI history, scoring 150 off just 64 balls. He now owns records of fastest 50 (16 balls), 100 (31) and 150 (64) in 50-over international cricket.

AB de Villiers keeps breaking records

De Villiers struck his 20th ODI ton and remained unbeaten on 162 off 66 balls with 17 fours and 8 sixes. This is his highest ODI score. Due to the skipper's stupendous innings, South Africa posted a massive 408/5 in 50 overs, which is the highest team total in Australia.

The previous fastest 150 was in the name of Australia's Shane Watson, off 83 deliveries, against Bangladesh in 2011.

The right-hander displayed his usual innovative batting shots and blazed to his century off 52 balls. He missed the fastest World Cup ton by 2 deliveries. He continued to hammer the bowlers and returned to the pavilion undefeated.

The record of fastest World Cup ton belongs to Kevin O'Brien of Ireland, who hit a 50-ball 100 against England in 2011 edition in Bangalore.

West Indies captain Jason Holder was ransacked for 104 runs in 10 overs. His final bowling analysis read 10-2-104-1, which is the most expensive 10-over spell in World Cup history. Of the 104, De Villiers hit his counterpart for 76 off just 21 balls (1x4, 2x4, 7x4, 6x6).
