Bengaluru, August 4: Robin Uthappa will play for Saurashtra in the upcoming domestic season.

The dashing batsman had ended his 15-year long association with Karntaka cricket a couple of months back after obtaining Karnataka State Cricket Association's permission to play for a different state.

It has been widely rumoured that Uthappa will turn out for Kerala, the native of his mother. However, the Uthappa and Kerala Cricket Association could not reach an agreement after a few rounds of talks and the latter roped in Tamil Nadu's KB Arun Karthik for the season.

Uthappa did not have a good domestic season (2016-17) scoring 328 runs from seven games and he was dropped from the squad after failing to find a place in the game against Maharashtra in Mohali.

The 31-year-old has played 46 one-day internationals for India scoring 934 runs at a shade over 25. He has six fifties with a highest of 86 against England in 2006. He has also played 130 first-class games.

"It is sad but we wish him all the best. He played for Karnataka from the U-14 category to the highest level. He served the state in the best possible way. He wanted to go and we couldn't say no to him," KSCA secretary R Sudhakar Rao had said earlier.
