New Delhi, Apr 26: Soon after the news that master-blaster Sachin Tendulkar met Congress President Sonia Gandhi, another news made everyone happy when sources claimed that the cricketer is all set to become a politician.
According to sources, Congress and central government nominated Sachin Tendulkar for Rajya Sabha. Meanwhile, Sachin also accepted the proposal offered by the Congress, said sources.
Congress approached the cricketer with the proposal one month back, say reports on Thursday, Apr 26. Earlier, it was reported that Sachin's visit to 10 Janapath in New Delhi was a courtesy meeting between him (Sachin) and Sonia. But the latest news removed the cloud of doubts.
Ministry of Home affairs recommended four names, including Sachin and veteran Bollywood actress Rekha for the seats in the upper house of the Parliament.
Earlier, Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni's name was reportedly considered for a Rajya Sabha nomination from Jharkhand. The name is understood to be proposed by Opposition Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) led by former CM Babulal Marandi.
The JVM proposed Dhoni's name for one of the two vacant seats from Jharkhand for which fresh polls are scheduled to be held on May 3.
