New Delhi, Jan 25: With the clamour for 'Bharat Ratna for Sachin' at its crescendo, the verdict is finally out the master blaster might not be the recipient of the coveted title this year.
Media reports suggest that Sachin's name was not recommended for this year's Bharat Ratna. Sources claim that the BCCI did not send across any names, including that of Sachin's. The Sports Ministry has recommended the names of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand and mountaineer Tenzing Norgay for the India's highest civilian honour.
The voices supporting Sachin receiving the Bharat Ratna was getting louder by the day. With the news coming out that India's favourite cricket player will not get the coveted title this year is sure to cause disappointment to a majority of India's cricket lovers. Among the voices supporting Sachin includes Anna Hazare as well.
The Bharat Ratna earlier did not include sportsmen and it was only this year that this category was introduced. The Home Ministry gave its go ahead after Sports Minister Ajay Maken wrote a letter to the PMO seeking to include the sports category.
The various fields for which the Bharat Ratna was bestowed was restricted to literature, art and science. The last recipient of the coveted title was noted vocalist Pandit Bhimsen Joshi in 2008.
