Along with Sachin Tendulkar, Professor CNR Rao will also be conferred with the Bharat Ratna for his contribution to the scientific field in the country.
Fans across the country lauded this decision and said that the timing for the award couldn't have been better for Tendulkar. Sachin, who played his last test on Saturday, Nov 16, was given a farewell fit for a king. He also becomes the first sportsperson in the counrty to receive the award.
Rao and Tendulkar have contributed to their respective fields immensely
Prof Rao, on the other hand, has published over 1,400 research papers and 45 books and his contribution to the scientific community has been acknowledged across the world. He has been awarded with many national and international awards.
According to a press release from the PMO, Sachin will be honoured for his outstanding contribution to cricket. "His achievements in cricket are unparalled, the records set by him are unmatched, and the spirit of sportsmanship displayed by him is exemplary," the release said.
Sachin played his last test on Saturday, Nov 16 and bid the game goodbye with teary eyes.
