Mumbai, Sep 14: As Sandeep Patil's tenure as chief selector of Indian national cricket team came to an end, the former India cricketer tried to play it safe when asked if the BCCI forced India's cricketing legend, Sachin Tendulkar, to retire from Test cricket.

Patil's four-year-term as chief selector ended on Monday (Sep 12) as he addressed the media while announcing India's Test squad against New Zealand.

Patil, who was appointed the chairman of selection committee following the sacking of Mohinder Amarnath in September 2012, answered some media questions but chose a smart reply when asked about BCCI's hands behind drawing curtains over the batting maestro's career.

"There are some matters between the selectors and BCCI which should remain confidential and cannot be revealed," Patil said.

Sachin's decision of Test retirement came as a shock to his fans. Rumours were abuzz that the board announced Sachin's retirement even before the cricketer did so through a media release in October 2013.

As per reports, the BCCI hurriedly organised a two-match Test series against West Indies at home, which was the Sachin's farewell series.

Sachin played his last Test at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium on November 14, 2013 in front of home spectators. The cricketing legend scored 74 as India won the second Test by an innings and 126 runs.

Talking about his tenure as chief selector, Patil also said that the board, in a last four years, made some bold decisions and as a result Indian team is performing well in all formats.

"We have taken some bold and tough decisions looking at the future of Indian cricket. We are very happy at the end of our term that the team is doing well in all three formats and I wish the next committee all the best," he said.
