Shahid Afridi slams 42-ball century in Natwest T20 Blast

New Delhi, August 23: He might have retired from international cricket but Shahid Afridi has once again proven that there's still a lot left in him.

The former Pakistan captain smashed a 42-ball century playing for his county side Hampshire against Derbyshire Falcons in the ongoing Natwest T20 Blast match on Tuesday (August 22).

The explosive right-handed batsman slammed his first T20 hundred in 256 matches but that came at an incredible strike rate of 234.

Afridi, who is known for dealing in boundaries, hit ten boundaries and seven sixes in his flamboyant knock in front of the packed crowd.

Promoted to open the innings for Hampshire, the 37-year-old didn't disappoint his team management's decision. He was finally dismissed on the very next delivery after reaching his ton (101 off 43).

His batting exploits helped the team post a mammoth 249 for eight. Skipper James Vince scored a 36-ball 55 for Hampshire.

Afridi's previous high score in the competition this season was 18. He reached his fifty off only 20 balls with a top-edged six but after driving Imran Tahir for another huge six, he was dropped on 65 at long-on by Madsen.

Defending a huge total, Hampshire restricted Falcons to just 148 and eventually won the match by 101 runs and entered the playoffs stage. Ben Cotton, who remained unbeaten at 30, was the top scorer for Falcons.

Liam Dawson and Kyle Abbott picked up three wickets apiece for Hampshire.
