The Eden Gardens will host the final match of the tournament on the night of April 3 (Sunday) while the first of the seven phases of elections in the state will take place the next day (April 4).
Though the constituencies that will go to the election on April 4 are not from Kolkata but yet the state administration will have the responsibility to ensure that both the occasions pass off peacefully.
In the past, there have been instances of matches of the Indian Premier League getting affected because of elections in the state. During the 2014 Lok Sabha election, a match between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Mumbai Indians were shifted out of Kolkata to Cuttack in neighbouring Odisha because of security concerns.
The task will be all the more demanding if India make it to the final on Sunday. India will take on the West Indies in the second semi-final at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday (March 31). New Zealand and England will play in the first sem-final later on Wednesday (March 30).
Eighteen constituencies in three districts of western West Bengal will go to the polls on April 4.
