Tendulkar set to become highest scorer in Test cricket

By Staff

New Delhi, Mar 21 (UNI) Indian batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar will have will have an opportinity to become the highest scorer in Test cricket during the upcoming three-match series against South Africa which gets underway next week.

The master blaster needs to score only 172 runs to overhaul the record which is being held by West Indian legend Brian Lara.

Keeping in view the devastating form displayed by Tendulkar in the recently concluded CB Series Down Under, this not seem to be a diffucult task.

If Tendulkar does succeed in breaking Lara's record, he will become the highest run-getter in both ODIs and Tests. He will also become the first to cross the 12,000-run mark in both forms of the game.

The 34-year-old Tendulkar has scored 11,782 runs in 146 Tests at an average of 55.57. He has accumulated a total of 28,143 runs in both Tests and ODIs.

Lara, meanwhile has put up 11,953 runs in 131 Tests.
