Dubai, Sep 2: Sri Lanka's off-spinner Tharindu Kaushal has been reported with a suspected illegal bowling action during the 3rd Test against India, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said today.
The 22-year-old Kaushal played in all 3 Tests of the series against India. He took 13 wickets including a five-wicket haul in the opener in Galle, which the hosts won.
He had only one wicket in the 3rd and final Test which ended yesterday (September 1) at Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) ground. India, after losing the first Test, bounced back in the next two to claim the series 2-1. The 3rd Test was won by 117 runs.
"The match officials' report, which was handed over to the Sri Lanka management, cited concerns about the legality of the 22-year-old's bowling action," ICC said in a media release on Wednesday.
"Kaushal's bowling action will now be scrutinised further under the ICC process relating to suspected illegal bowling actions reported in Tests, ODIs and T20Is. He is required to undergo testing within 14 days, and, during this period, Kaushal is permitted to continue bowling in international cricket until the results of the testing are known," it added.
Kaushal made his Test debut against New Zealand in December, 2014, and has so far played in 6 matches, taking 24 wickets.
