Tragic demise: Bouncer claims life of young Pakistan cricketer Zubair Ahmed

Karachi, Aug 17: In a tragic on-field incident, a young Pakistan batsman Zubair Ahmed passed away after being hit by a bouncer during a domestic match at Mardan.

Ahmed, who had played four List A matches and represented the T20 team Quetta Bears, was hit on the head on August 14. The cricketer wasn't wearing a helmet while batting and succumbed to the head injury.

Ahmed's death has once again fanned the debate of necessity of following the safety measures and wearing safety gears all the time.

Pakistan Cricket Board confirmed the news on Wednesday (August 16) in a message on social media and stressed on the need to wear the safety gears while playing.

"Tragic death of Zubair Ahmed is another reminder that safety gear i.e. helmet must be worn at all times. Our sympathies with Zubair's family," PCB wrote on its twitter handle.

Earlier in 2014, Australia batsman Phillip Hughes died after being hit in the neck by a cricket ball during a domestic match at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Only a couple of days back, Australian opener David Warner, on August 15, was forced to retire hurt following a blow to the side of his neck by a bouncer from Josh Hazlewood during Australia's intra-squad match at Darwin.
