Mumbai, Jan 18: Uncapped Gujarat fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was today named in the Indian Twenty20 International squad for the Australia series. He will replace paceman Mohammed Shami, who was ruled out of the tour due to injury.

"The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Jasprit Bumrah in the India T20I team as the replacement for Mohammed Shami, who has been ruled out due to injury. The Indian team is scheduled to play three Twenty20 matches starting January 26, 2016," BCCI's secretary Anurag Thakur said in a media statement today (January 18).
"Bumrah will leave for Australia on January 22 along with other T20I team members - Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Ashish Nehra, Suresh Raina and Hardik Pandya," he added.
The 22-year-old Bumrah has so far played 18 first-class, 20 List A (50 overs) and 47 T20s. He plays for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The right-arm bowler is currently playing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 tournament's Super League stage in Mumbai.
Today, he took 1 wicket for 28 runs in his 4 overs as Gujarat defeated Jharkhand by 6 wickets at the Bandra Kurla Complex ground.
MS Dhoni-led India are currently involved in a 5-match ODI series against Australia. They have already lost the series, trailing 0-3 with 2 games left. This will be followed by 3 T20Is, starting on January 26 in Adelaide.
