New Delhi, Dec 3: On the December 17, ace Indian boxer Vijender Singh will be fighting against Tanzania's Francis Cheka in New Delhi to defend his World Boxing Organization (WBO) Asia Pacific Title.

He had won the title defeating Kerry Hope of Australia last July. To increase the excitement of the fans, the boxer has claimed that cricket great Sachin Tendulkar may grace the occasion.

Speaking from Manchester, Vijender Singh said: “Sachin paji has promised me he would try his best to watch my bout on 17th December in New Delhi!"

Sachin Tendulkar has been one of the key inspirations to Vijender since his early boxing days. Speaking about the legend, the boxer added: “I never missed watching Sachin's batting in television in my training days. Even sometimes I was late in joining the training at Bhiwani Boxing Club.

"He is a legend. He has taken the game to another level. Around four months ago I also met him in Gurgaon at a function and there while talking about the training, mentality, determination, setting focus, he spoke a lot valuable words.

"I invited him to see my last bout in Delhi in last July. He could not come. But this time after receiving my text, he has replied that he might come to see my December 17 fight against Cheka in New Delhi. That will be a great thing for me."

Vijender's opponent Francis Cheka is a former champion in the WBO Asia pacific middleweight category.

Cheka has won 17 bouts out of 43 so far. Vijender, when asked about his opposition, said: “I have seen the video clippings of his match. No doubt he is experienced.

"His height is also good. That is why he can offer the jobs from away. He has another key weapon in his game.

"That is his left hook is very powerful. But I am also prepared." Vijender will return to India on 11th December from Manchester.
