Bengaluru, March 8: India skipper Virat Kohli received the prestigious Polly Umrigar award while all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin was presented the Dilip Sardesai award at the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) annual awards on Wednesday (March 8) here.

ICC won't take any action against Smith or Kohli

Kohli, who was in tremendous form across all formats in the year 2016, recieved BCCI's best international player of 2015/16, and thus became the first cricketer to get the award three times.

On receiving the award, Kohli said, "It's been quite unbelievable the last 10 to 12 months. I am not bothered who thinks what. This is the attitude in dressing room. We learn to win together and lose together. I wanted to be the best in all formats. I saw it as an opportunity and I decided to follow a path and the whole team believed it."

Much like Kohli, Ashwin -- who was named the ICC Test Cricketer and Cricketer of the year 2016 -- was given Dilip Sardesai award by legendary India cricketer Farokh Engineer at the ceremony held at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Bengaluru.

Former India wicket-keeper Farokh Engineer delivered the fifth MAK Pataudi lecture before the awards were handed out to the cricketers.

Engineer urged everyone to know and respect the contributions made by Pataudi to Indian cricket, saying that the Tiger was "still a world-class player despite losing one eye".
