'Helicopter time': Watch MS Dhoni's 'Six on the roof' in IPL 2017

Mahendra Singh Dhoni enthralled the Bengaluru crowd with a massive six against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in IPL 2017.

Bengaluru, April 17: Under-pressure Mahendra Singh Dhoni showed his big-hitting powers are not on the wane as he briefly enthralled the crowd at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 match here last night (April 16). (Scorecard)

It was Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) home ground and the "Red Army" was in full force. However, there were plenty of Dhoni supporters too in the stands.

Such is the former Indian captain's popularity that wherever he plays, he gets the full backing from spectators. And it was no different on Sunday night in Bengaluru.

One poster read, "Helicopter to land in Chinnaswamy". There were two more, "Dhoni, land your helicopter here" and "It's helicopter time!". Some Dhoni supporters came in Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) yellow jerseys.

For all those waiting to see the "helicopter" from Dhoni, had something to cheer. Dhoni unleased one of the biggest hits at the Chinnaswamy Stadium ground.

On the last ball of the 14th over, bowled by legspinner Yuzvendra Chahal, Dhoni blasted a huge six, which landed on the roof, on the leg-side. His batting partner and captain Steve Smith enjoyed the shot along with the fans at the stadium.

That was the only six in Dhoni's innings as he scored 28 off 25 in RPS' 161/8. RPS won the contest by 27 runs.

It was a quiet start for Dhoni and he had only 16 runs off 20 balls. Then came the shot which had the crowd on its feet. Dhoni, without a helmet or a cap, stepped out of the crease and smashed the ball high in the air. The result, a six, with the ball landing on the roof.

The giant screen at the ground read, "Watch out Cubbon Park". The ball, however, did not travel to Cubbon Park, which is next to the stadium, but stayed on the roof.

Over the years in IPL, RCB's Chris Gayle and others have blasted several huge sixes at the Bengaluru stadium. But on Sunday night, with the West Indian not in the RCB XI, it was time for Dhoni to do a Gayle and prove his critics wrong.
