World T20: High time openers Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan show some fireworks

New Delhi, Mar 28: Virat Kohli led-Team India to yet another historic run chase on Sunday (March 27) at Mohali in the virtual quarter-final game against Australia, but top order's continued poor performance is still something that has agravated the concerns of skipper MS Dhoni.

There were high hopes from the opening pair of Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma, after they failed to capitalise over the start the duo got against Bangladesh. But both Shikhar and Rohit failed to give the much-needed momentum.

Top order's collapse in the crucial game against Australia meant Virat Kohli had to play the role of a sheet-anchor and finish the game for his side.

Trio of Rohit, Shikhar, Suresh fails once again:

The destructive duo of Rohit and Shikhar, which was looking invincible under home conditions, failed to click on the batting friendly Mohali track. Even Suresh Raina, the most destructive T20 specialist in the side, once again failed to live up to the expectations against Australia.

All three of these frontline batters have perished at crucial junctures, leaving the side reel under pressure. Thanks to the masterclass of Virat Kohli, who has single-handedly led this Indian side into World T20 semi finals with his match-winning fifties against Pakistan and Australia after the other frontline bastmen failed to impress.

MS Dhoni unhappy with batsmen barring Kohli:

Even skipper MS Dhoni looked visibly concerned about the Indian batting performance.

Speaking during a post-match interview after win against Australia, Dhoni cautioned other batters in the side about continuous failed show and said India were batting just 60-65 per cent of their ability, barring Kohli.

Dhoni hoped that the top-order batsmen would share the responsibility so that the pressure becomes less on Kohli, the only batsman to have shown consistency in the tournament so far.

Thus, it is high time Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma and Suresh Raina regain their lost touch in the semi-final match against West Indies at Wankhede Stadium.

Also, it is not expected of Virat Kohli to perform in every game for there will be times when Mr Consistent has a bad outing, just like the one against Bangladesh.

Will Rohit-Shikhar explode at Wankhede?

Wankhede pitch has so far been a batting paradise in the tournament so far hence, hence it is expected from Rohit Sharma that he'll perform well on his homeground. As far as Shikhar Dhawan's performance is concerned, a big knock is long overdue from this left-handed batter.
