Younis Khan breaks Javed Miandad's 22-year-old Test record

Abu Dhabi, Oct 13: Younis Khan today broke Javed Miandad's long-standing record during the 1st day of the 1st Test against England here at Sheikh Zayed Stadium.

The 37-year-old Younis, on Tuesday, became Pakistan's leading run scorer in Test history. He reached the milestone with a six off Moeen Ali. As soon as he claimed the record, his team-mates and fans gave a standing ovation and the batsman acknowledged.

He had entered the Test needing 19 runs to go past Miandad. He fell to Stuart Board, caught by captain Alastair Cook, for 38 runs.

Younis, in his 102nd Test match, moved from 15 to 21 with a hit over the boundary to break Miandad's record which stood for over 20 years. Miandad played his last Test in December 1993 and the record was in his name for nearly 22 years.

The right-hander went past Miandad's Test aggregate of 8,832 runs (124 Tests). Younis is also the record holder for most Test centuries from Pakistan with 30.

Younis made his Test debut against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi in February 2000. He averaged over 54 before the start of today's match.
